Best time to go

Late November to mid-December for all four villages

Highlights

  • Private transfers and chauffeur-driven excursions throughout the itinerary
  • Two nights in central Strasbourg, then two in central Colmar, both in 4★ hotels
  • Two iconic Christmas cities, and the Christmas markets of four villages along the Alsace Wine Route: Obernai, Riquewihr, Eguisheim and Kaysersberg
  • A private guided walk in each city, a family-run wine estate and a tasting of Alsace specialities in Colmar
  • The day you change hotel is spent crossing Alsace from village to village, luggage in the vehicle
  • Haut-Koenigsbourg on its ridge above the plain, and a cruise on the Ill once the city is lit
  • Stay in the heart of both cities, so the Christmas markets are just outside your door, with the evenings left free

Is this trip right for you?

A good fit if...

  • You want the markets without worrying about remote parking or crowded shuttles
  • You would rather see four villages properly than tick off ten in a week
  • Two nights in each city suits you better than one long base or four one-night stops
  • You enjoy understanding how French and German history shaped the architecture and culture around you

Not the best fit if...

  • You are coming for the vineyards in leaf: in winter, the Wine Route is about its villages, cellars and Christmas traditions rather than vineyard scenery
  • You would rather drive yourself: everything here is priced around a private chauffeur
  • You want empty streets: this is the busiest season of the Alsace year, which is precisely why the driver and the two private guides are in the price

FAQ

We arrange the order of the itinerary around your travel dates so that the village markets included in your journey are actually open. The city markets open at the end of November and run to just before Christmas in Strasbourg, a few days longer in Colmar. The village ones are shorter, and several are weekends only: Kaysersberg opens on the Advent weekends, Friday to Sunday. Tell us the dates you have in mind and we will tell you plainly what will be open and what will not, before anything is booked, then rebuild the days around what is. Outside that season the villages are still there and the hotels are quieter, but the markets are the reason for this journey, and we would rather say so than sell it to you anyway.
