That is your call, and you make it right here on this page. With the private driver option, every day of the programme is driven for you, including the return trip to Mont-Saint-Michel and the road to Cancale. With the rental car option, the car is waiting for you on arrival and you keep your own hours. The price shown updates with the option you select.
Yes, on both counts. Based on 4 travellers, expect €967 per person with the rental car and €1,103 per person with the private driver, the difference being the three days the driver is dedicated to you. The number of travellers matters too, because the driver, the licensed guide and the tall-ship sail are shared costs: for two, the price per person goes up. Three travellers works perfectly well, and above four we prepare a tailored quote. The “from” price shown is the rental car option on a basis of 4.
Because that is when the Mont becomes liveable again. The day’s coaches leave in the middle of the afternoon: from then on the lanes empty out, the light rakes across the bay and the photographs are a different thing entirely. You arrive as everyone else is leaving, you climb to the abbey with your guide, and you come back down after sunset. It is the one window that gives you both the quiet and the light.
It depends on the season. The abbey opens after dark during the summer, with a route set to music and lighting through the halls; the exact dates are fixed each year by the abbey itself. The rest of the year your visit is booked on the last entry of the day, still with your licensed guide, and the bay still takes on its end-of-day colours. We confirm which format applies to your dates when we send the quote.
A licensed guide is with you for the Mont-Saint-Michel day, across the rock and then inside the abbey. That is where the commentary genuinely changes the visit: the history of the sanctuary, a building balanced on a rock, and the tides of the bay. Saint-Malo and Dinan are explored at your own pace, and a private licensed guide can be added there as an option.
It depends on the tides and the season: the boat sails when there is enough water, which shifts the slot from one day to the next. We book the sail on the best slot of your day, and Dinan takes the other half. If the weather makes sailing impossible, we move it to another half-day of your stay where we can, and refund it if we cannot.
No. You stay all three nights in the same 4-star hotel in Saint-Malo, inside the walls or on the seafront as you prefer. That is what makes the trip comfortable: every day is an out-and-back from the same room, and you come home to the corsair city each evening.
The trip starts when you arrive in Saint-Malo: the journey from your previous stop is not included in the price, but we are happy to book it as an option. From Paris, the direct train from Montparnasse takes about 2h30 to Saint-Malo station, and the transfer from there to your hotel is included. By car, allow a little over four hours.
Breakfast is included for all three nights. Lunches and dinners are not, and that is deliberate: between the restaurants inside the walls, the oysters at Cancale and the harbour at Dinan, you are better off keeping the choice. Just tell us which meals you would like booked, and we choose the tables with you and reserve in your name.
A reasonable level of fitness is enough, but the programme does involve walking and stairs: the climb up to the abbey at Mont-Saint-Michel, the steep lanes of Dinan, the walk around the ramparts of Saint-Malo. Tell us if there is a mobility constraint, as several stops can be adapted.
Yes. Extra nights in the same hotel are easy to add, and this trip pairs well with Paris, the D-Day landing beaches or the châteaux of the Loire. The last morning is deliberately left free so that you can move on to the next stop without racing the clock.
