What to see and do

  • Loire Valley, view 1
Chambord is not visited like a house but like a demonstration: a double helix staircase where two people climb without ever meeting, and a roof terrace of chimneys from which the court watched the hunt leave. Allow two hours inside and one for the park, which is held by thirty two kilometers of wall.
  • Loire Valley, view 2
Chenonceau is the only château here that you cross from one bank to the other, along a gallery built straight over the river Cher. A garden faces it from either side, one laid out for Diane de Poitiers and one for Catherine de Médicis, and the estate stays small enough to see in a morning.
  • Loire Valley, view 3
Villandry is visited for its gardens rather than its rooms, which makes it the stop that holds children: a kitchen garden of nine squares replanted twice a year, and a box parterre set out as four different kinds of love. Start on the upper terrace, where the whole pattern reads in a single look.
  • Loire Valley, view 4
Azay-le-Rideau was built on an island in the Indre and the water still reaches its foundations, which is why it photographs better than anything else in the valley. It is small, so an hour covers the inside, and the walk around the park brings you back to the reflection people come for.
  • Loire Valley, view 5
The Loire à Vélo is flat, signposted from end to end and almost entirely off the road, so it suits people who have not been on a bike in years. Between Blois and Saumur the châteaux fall roughly a morning’s ride apart, which is the pleasant way to reach two of them without parking a car.

FAQ

Panoramic view of Loire Valley
Is the Loire Valley Trip Fully Customizable?

Yes. There is no fixed departure and no group. The duration, the pace, the way you travel, the châteaux you actually visit, the type of accommodation and the restaurants are all set around your dates, your budget and the people traveling with you.

The sample Loire by bike trip is a starting point rather than a catalogue item, and every proposal is rebuilt from your own plans.

What Can You Book for Our Trip to the Loire Valley?

Depending on the proposal you approve, we book the accommodation, the trains and transfers within France, the car, driver or bicycle rental, the château admissions, private guides, tastings and the restaurant tables. Restaurant reservations are part of the service on every trip, and the meals themselves are settled on the spot.

All included services are clearly listed in your quotation before confirmation. International flights are not included.

Can We Do the Loire Valley by Bike?

Yes, and it is one of the few regions in France where cycling is genuinely the best way to see the sights rather than a sporting choice. The route is flat, waymarked and mostly off the road, the châteaux are spaced at sensible intervals, and luggage is moved between hotels for you.

We adjust the daily distances to the least confident rider in the group, and electric bicycles are available if you would rather not think about the wind.

Is the Loire Valley a Good Trip from Paris?

Yes. Tours is a little over an hour from Paris by high-speed train and Blois around ninety minutes, so the valley works either as a three-day extension or as the first leg of a longer route through France.

We would rather build two or three unhurried days here than a single day trip, which spends most of its hours on the train and at ticket desks.

How Much Does a Trip to the Loire Valley Cost?

It depends on the season, the number of travelers, the length of the stay, the category of accommodation and how much is guided or driven. A cycling week with comfortable hotels does not carry the same budget as a chauffeur-driven stay with private guides at each château.

The ready-to-go trip shown below carries a published starting price, which gives you an order of magnitude before anything is quoted. After we have read your request, you receive a proposal matched to what you actually care about.

How Far in Advance Should We Contact You?

The earlier you write, the wider the choice of hotels, guides and tables, which matters most from May to September. Several months ahead is comfortable for those dates, and earlier still if you want a specific château stay.

A request closer to departure is still worth sending: we will tell you plainly what is left rather than build a trip around what is not.

Will You Remain Available During the Trip?

Yes. You will have a dedicated contact for the services we have organized and for any difficulties that may affect your itinerary. The precise terms of this support are explained in your proposal and travel documents.
